Hello! This is Ryan Grannell’s blog.

I’m an undergraduate student at National University Ireland, Galway, specialising in Biochemistry. I’m interested in most things STEM, but I particularly like Biochemistry and Bioinformatics.

In my spare time I write code; this tends to involve either a problem with an interesting algorithm at its heart, or an informative data analysis problem.

Initially I tried to ‘code’ in Excel (without VBA) using a cell-based approach, but that was hopelessly limiting. I asked on an obscure forum what language I should learn, and R was the first recommendation.

So, for better or worse (mostly better), I’m a useR.
